Reporting to the Director of Finance, The Controller will be an expert at all things finance and will drive at creating a Foundation of excellence for the organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Accounting and Financial Reporting
    • Prepare the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate and timely accounting of consolidated business results.
    • Accountable for the month-end reporting closing process, and prepare the month-end reporting management package
    • Accountable for the year end closing process to ensure the annual financial reporting package is completed timely and accurately
    • Lead the annual Audit/ Review/ NTR process
    • Responsible for completing the research of any complex accounting issues
    • Provide insight into the different actual vs budgeted variance analyses by providing the necessary write up or analyses
    • Assist in preparing the organization’s financial plan such as budget and forecast
    • Assist in building a strong and clean data structure which will support the company’s needs for data-driven decision making and deeper visibility and reporting
    • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed, and help solve any tech related issues
    • Manage all AR, AP, and payroll functions
  • Planning and Analysis
    • Play a key role in scorecard, dashboard, KPI reporting
    • Assist in preparing the organization’s financial plan such as budget and forecast
    • Play a key role in building a strong and clean data structure which will support the company’s needs for data-driven decision making and deeper visibility and reporting
    • A strong business partner who can collect, prepare and analyze financial data from across the organization to create reports that provide data-driven answers to business questions.
    • Maintain and mitigate additional costs by identifying opportunities for efficiency, savings and investment.
  •  Tax Reporting and Compliance
    • Lead the year end tax filing requirements for all jurisdictions
    • Contribute to the research of any complex tax issues
    • Sales taxes, lead the process relating to the different state and local sales tax requirements (initial registrations and ongoing maintenance) 
  • Risk Management
    • Lead the design, implementation, and maintaining of control for all key and high-risk areas
    • Lead the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all key and material areas
    • Help safeguard the company’s assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Others
    • Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff
    • Maintain up to date financial information and other contracts/ agreements.

 

Based out of Vancouver and reporting into the Director of Finance the right candidate will:

  • 4+ years CPA
  • Strong written and verbal communication skill, experience presenting to senior management
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS), and tax compliance (US and Canada) requirements
  • Strong knowledge of financial statements and the drivers that impact them
  • Strong people manager and big on coaching
  • Strong analytical and modelling skills
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Strong team player that can drive discussion but is always open to hearing a different view
  • Self-motivated professional with the ability to focus, prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced, high-energy environment
  • Ability to understand what truly matter to the business and cut through the noise
  • Highly entrepreneurial, keen in building collaborative partnerships that challenge the status quo.
